The one thing

22 February 2010

Hana is 15 years old. She’s lived in two different children’s homes since she was ten. In that time, she has only been home once.

Like many other girls of her age, she likes dancing and going out with her friends. She shares a room with her friend Maria. “We have posters, a sofa, beds an everything there,” she says. “It’s good.”

There are, however, some things that she doesn’t like about the home. “If I could improve anything it would be the educators,” she says. “I would change those, but nothing else."

“What I dislike about them is that, for example, when you do something wrong, you have to do something immediately or they slap you several times.” In the future, Hana hopes to go to a training centre to become a cook or a waitress. “If I pass the training,” she adds, “I would be a bartender.”
