Developing foster care

4 February 2010

We have recently completed the development of a professional foster care programme for the Czech Republic. We will be partnering a local NGO, Amalthea, on training in best practices for recruiting and supporting professional foster carers.

Amalthea is well known in the Czech Republic and is well placed to disseminate around the country the knowledge they gain. The programme will be piloted in Pardubice county, with financial support from The Sirius Foundation, and is run in partnership with BAAF.

The main objectives of our training programme are the:

  1. Adaptating international good practices in professional fostering to the Czech Republic;
  2. Piloting the preparation process for prospective professional foster carers in Pardubice county;
  3. Developing a comprehensive assessment framework for selecting prospective foster carers and support work with foster families.

First step: Study Visit to the UK, to take place at the beginning of March.
