1 million reasons to buy a cupcake
19 May 2010

Peyton and Byrne, Oliver Peyton’s ‘very British bakery’ well-known for its delectable pastel-coloured shops and products to match, have created a special cupcake for the Light a Birthday Candle for Lumos campaign.
The delicious pink cupcake with two purple leaves is inspired by the Lumos logo and will be available throughout June 2010 at Peyton and Byrne’s two London bakeries at Heal’s and St Pancras International and are priced at £2.50 each.
Peyton and Byrne will donate 30p from the sale of each cupcake to Lumos, to help the charity raise vital funds, enabling them to move children out of institutions and into family-based care so that next year many more children will be able to celebrate their birthday properly.
Lumos works to transform the lives of disadvantaged children across Central and Eastern Europe, where around one million children are growing up in large, residential institutions. Year after year, the staff who look after them cannot provide the one-to-one attention that they so desperately need. That is why 1 June is often chosen as a day to celebrate, however the notion of a child’s individual birthday is lost – with many children never knowing their actual birth date.
Lumos is asking families, friends, employees and community groups to raise vital funds by hosting a ‘birthday’ party and buying or baking cakes to bring into work. So now there really are a million reasons to treat yourself to a Peyton and Byrne cupcake this June.
