Light a virtual candle
Support Lumos’ Light a Birthday Candle campaign by downloading a birthday candle. Through your mobile phone, and shortly, through your iPhone, you can donate via your mobile handsets or desktop computers and download a specially created ‘app’.
The mobile site
For non-iPhone users, a special mobile site – m.lumos.org.uk – will allow those with other internet-enabled phones to donate a sum of their choice and select the colour of birthday candle they wish to receive. The mobile platform can also be accessed from desktop computers as well as from mobiles.

- Owners of internet-enabled mobile phones can access the site and download a candle by making a donation
- The donation can be made via credit / debit card or with a PayPal account
- The mobile platform can also be accessed from a desktop computer
- Users will be asked to enter their mobile phone details and donation amount (payment options as before)
- They will receive an SMS with a special weblink taking them directly to their candle, which can be saved onto the phone (for instance, as background wallpaper)
About the App
The app is free to download and features information about our work and news from our Light a Birthday Candle campaign. You can select from four interactive candles, each a different price to download, thereby making a donation. The candle flame can be moved around (by shaking / waving the iPhone) and temporarily blown out (by blowing into the microphone).

- The app features information about Lumos’ work and news from the Light a Birthday Candle campaign
- The app (and mobile site) are linked to the www.lumos.org.uk CMS system, so refreshes news content as it is uploaded to the main site
- The candle is an ‘in-app purchase’, with users being able to select from different candles for different price points
- The candles cost £1.19, £4.99, £19.99, £49.99
